Ragtime. Kevin Young, b. 1970

Like hot food

I love you

Like warm

bread & cold

cuts, butter

Or, days later, after

when I want

whatever’s left.

From Jelly Roll by the author.

I stumbled on this awesome poem at the back of a metro card a year ago. I love the black diction, 70s vibe and I love how childlike the poet seems with verses filled with similes entirely about food. Food seems to have that effect on everyone. Well almost everyone.
